Frustration mounts as govt cold shoulders agitating traffic wardens

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITWs) who started their agitation on Jan 9 continue to battle it on their own as the govt continues to cold shoulder them. ITWs launched indefinite strike against the authority demanding regularization of their job, enhancement of payment, ending payment deduction and 15 days casual leave annually among others. It is reported that frustration is surreptitiously growing among the wardens as the state government is yet to react on current impasse even after 13 days of agitation.
The white clad wardens, who have been managing chaotic traffic situation of twin Capital City since last six years on master roll basis, finds neither sympathizers nor supporters. Surprisingly, other than Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) and Arunachal Civil Society (ACS), no organisation has turned up so far to express solidarity with agitating wardens, the wardens informed.
"Thirteen days have passed, yet no response from the government, or any organisation expressing solidarity with us" rued Tarak H Cherom President, ITW.
"We sincerely served the people of Itanagar, I don't know why all are maintaining stoic silence on our issue" Cherom added.
Making it worse, it is also reported that wardens are selling their belongings including mobile phones to meet up tracker/tempo fares as they have to convene at Tennis Court (IG Park) every day. Many wardens are reportedly losing morale.
"Every day we are losing morale, most of the families are entirely dependent on this job" said Dolang Raju.
"I have no income source other than this job, therefore my family is facing untold miseries, after we have gone to protest" Raju added.
Ever since, the traffic wardens launched indefinite strike, Tennis Court has become their ground to renew their fighting spirit in pursuit of 'justice'.

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Two labourers and a handyman of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Gensi circle in West Siang district died and three other severely injured in road accident. The accident took place in between Gengi village and Gengi headquarters while they were returning from duty.

Pangsau Pass Winter Festival draws thousands of visitor

Attending the second day of the PPWF 2017 at Nampong on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein said that the Pangsau Pass Winter Festival is a meaningful festival that will encourage international trade with the neignbouring countries especially with Myanmar. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Govt at the Centre is serious and committed to bring the Act East Policy in to practical, and that is why it was rechristened from erstwhile Look East Policy by the present govt.

MLA, DC meet fire victims; distribute reliefs
AALO, Jan 21: Aalo East MLA and APEDA Chairman Jarkar Gamlin and West Siang Deputy Commissioner Gamli Padu met the fire victims of Gour Hill and Ngomdir villages and distributed relief from their sides.
The MLA handed over Rs. 10,000 each to seven affected families of Ngomdir village and Rs. 10,000 to the Relief Committee to gear up restoration works.
He also gave a cheque amounting to Rs. 90,000 to nine fire victims of Gour Hill and encouraged the affected people to not lose heart in the hours of crisis.
Deputy Commissioner Padu along with PD (DRDA) visited Ngomdir village and interacted with the villagers on restoration measures. He also distributed blankets to all the affected families from his side.
He also assured to look into water connection, vehicle for transportation for materials and health camp as soon as possible.

Waii denounces forced and early marriage
SEPPA, Jan 21: Home, RWD and Labour & Employment Minister Kumar Waii denounced the practice of forced and early marriages, which has always been a crime.
Addressing the 8th General Conference of All Pipu Chayangtajo Gawepurang Sawa Students' Union (APCGSSU) during his whirlwind tour of Chayangtajo and Bameng, Waii recalled the past achievers from the area and exhorted the student community to follow their footsteps.
The minister advised the students to study hard to achieve their desired goal in life and to make their parents and the society proud of them.
Acknowledging that education helps in every aspect of life from farming to politics, he suggested them to accord top most priority to education. He made an appeal to the student organizations and NGOs to spread awareness about other positive aspects of education which include personality and character development and others.

House gutted in Palin
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The SPT building and kitchen of one Gora Paku of Palin were reduced to ashes in a fire accident.
The house owner could save nothing as the fire spread quickly engulfing the home in minutes, informed All Kra Daadi District Students Union (AKDDSU).
A team of AKDDSU visited the accident site to take stock of the situation. The students' union appealed to the Deputy Commissioner and district relief officer to visit the accident site and provide relief materials and compensation to the affected family for quick rehabilitation.
Help for Wakka fire victims
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: In a bid to aid those affected by the recent fire mishap at Wakka in Longding district, the All Arunachal Pradesh Postal Employee Welfare Association conducted a day long donation drive within its association members on Friday.

Former CM Tuki inaugurates Primary School at New Goya

NABARD launches 20 farmers' clubs in Diyun
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Saturday launched 20 farmers' clubs in Diyun circle of Changlang district.
Explaining about the main objective of forming farmers' clubs, NABARD District Development Manager Kamal Roy advised members of various farmers clubs to work together to develop appropriate technologies and solutions to the problems of the farming sector.
NABARD supports farmers clubs for a period of three years with assistance for exposure visits, training through experts to encourage progressive farming methods etc. For this purpose, NABARD allocates Rs. 10,000 for each farmer's club annually for three years.
To continue their functioning, after the period of 3 years, these farmers clubs are encouraged to start their own small savings.

Society condoles student's demise
ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS) on Saturday deeply condoled the untimely demise of Tadung Yachu, Convenor of All Puroik Students Union (APSU) who died on January 19, 2017 near Puroik Colony, Papu Nallah.
Late Yachu served the society in distinct capacities. He did BA from Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar in 2012. In its condolence message, APWS termed his death a great loss to the community.
